A ONE-WEEK CLEAN UP DRIVE CAMPAIGN | To celebrate World Environment Day we launched various campaigns.
The first being a one-week clean up drive campaign (from 1st to 6th
June 1998) which was undertaken by the team members led by our Managing
Director, Mr. Vithal Kamat. The roads and by-lanes were given a face-lift by smartly turned out Team members in their white Orchid T-shirts.On the day itself we undertook A "NO PLASTIC BAG" CAMPAIGN at prominent shopping stores like FOODLAND, SHOPPERS' STOP & ASIATIC STORES in Bombay where paper bags were distributed with an environment message on them.Infact all shops in our shopping arcade are also doing their bit for the environment by using paper bags instead of plastic ones. In our endeavour to promote the campaign of say no to plastic bags, at all seminars, press conferences, hosted by The Orchid visits by school and college students the participants are given a cloth bag each. Ms. Harinakshi Desai, Environment Officer of The Orchid also addressed the gathering and managed to elicit a pledge from the gathering where they all agreed to "Say No To Plastic Bags." And pass the message all over. We felicitated Mr. Viren Merchant who is the pioneer of the Advanced Locality Programme. There were more than 100 people who attended this seminar, at the end of which we distributed cloth bags to every one with a message saying no to plastic bags. We also had various in-house programmes where free cloth bags were given to all the team members; from 1st to 5th June, 1998 turn down items (such as various herbs, magazine based on environment called "EcoIndia" and paper bags) were placed in all the guest rooms & paper bags were distributed to our guests visiting The Coffee Shop & The Bar. |
