PLASTIC BAGS COLLECTION DRIVE

Aim To rid Mumbai of plastic bags

Concept To augment our environmental initiatives and reinforce the drive to rid mumbai of Plastic bags less than 20 microns. We shall achieve this through a collection drive administered through various schools with the support of BMC

Publicity For Your School We shall generate pre events publicity through advertisement , interviews and press releases. Post events publicity will in terms of photo opportunities with the plastic bags, interviews and also at the felicitation dinner.

Logistics The Orchid in association with BMC shall organize a truck to come and collect the plastic bags from your school premises. The collection point for the bags will be schools. The Principals or a nominee per school shall act as single point contact. In order to make the collection drive more fun we will have contests in four zones and a prize shall be awarded to each school collecting the most number of plastic bags by weight per student in the specified zone . The Orchid shall host a lunch / dinner/ hi tea for 50 people from the winning school.

The Rules The competition is open to all school who accept our invitation The School shall confirm their participation in writing latest by September 15, 2000. The school shall have all the plastic bags neatly bundled in one place. Only plastic bags less than 20 microns thick should be collected for the drive. The Orchid representative will weigh the bags before collection. The school to provide one photo opportunity with it's team and the plastic bags. The winner shall be the one with maximum tonnage. A minimum of 50gms / student is set as the qualifying criterion. However the average will be calculated on the basis of total weight collected divided by the total number of students on the rolls of the participating school. The school with the highest average weight per student will win the award from their respective zone. The competition is on a zonal basis with, Mumbai being divided into four zones ( NE,NW,SE,SW ) The award shall be a felicitation at the Orchid of fifty students of the winning school. The school can decide on who to send. The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.

RESULT: 43 Schools participated, 450 kgs of plastic bags collected
