As of this year we have worked with more than 85,000 school children on various environment awareness campaigns and drives. |

A noteworthy achievement was the successful "Anti - Plastic Bags Collection Drive Cum Competition" organized in association with the local municipality. The response was truly overwhelming as 43 schools covering 78,000 students collected 450 kgs of used plastic bags ( approximately 3000 plastic bags of 20 microns and below make 1 Kg). The students took the campaign out to their homes and neighborhoods and as a result the awareness about the effects of plastic was spread by work of mouth to 7.8 million citizens of Mumbai. As the campaign made news headlines and was also actively carried by the television news channels the effect of the reach cannot be imagined! Thus a small effort on our part actually made big strides for the environment. And the Prizes were awarded according to the Rules set by The Orchid In addition to the above we have worked with over 10,000 students from our 73 school and colleges,starting from the age of 5, who have visited The Orchid as part of their environment studies. Another means of spreading environment education and sharing information is through the CD - ROM Which is a knowledge base on hospitality and environment sponsored by the Orchid during the Good Earthkeeping Seminar.This CD -ROM of Internet resources is a till especially developed for this occasion and is a first of its kind in the hospitality industry, which will serve as a jump start rewards taking individuals towards a neater environment organizations. The Orchid has also one global in spreading concern for environment and education in the field of environment. The Orchid has sponsored the Environment Teaching Resource Pack for Hospitality Education Centers which is being published jointly by the International Hotel and Restaurant Association ( HI& RA ), The United National Environment Program ( UNEP ) and International Association of Hotel School Directors ( EUHOFA ). The IH & RA and UNEP have an ongoing partnership to promote environmental awareness and food practice in the hotel industry. A survey conducted by the two organization had previously identified a lack of information, expertise and practice and practical teaching tools as an obstacle to the introduction of environmental issues into the hospitality curricula. This Environmental Teaching Resource Pack is designed to fill that gap. A comprehensive and user - friendly set of materials includes teachers and trainers' notes. transparencies, exercises and case studies for practical demonstration projects. it is aimed at helping hospitality centers develop and expand their environmental curricula and thus introduce environmental issues into the education and training agenda of tomorrow's hospitality and tourism professionals. | ||
