Advance Locality Management
Under the ALM programme the residents of an area take up the cleaning and maintenance of that place by contributing Re1 per day. The BMC offers guidance, but other aspects like funding, cleaning and maintenance is taken up by the residents themselves. The Orchid was the first commercial entity to take up this program on a large scale. We have involved our neighbouring hotels and offices maintain and beautify our surrounding areas. The Orchid believes that in order to create a cleaner and greener Mumbai, residents co-operation is essential. This has been ably demonstrated in the ALM movement. There are about 700 ALMs in Mumbai, we would like to help increase this figure, leading to more Mumbaikars giving a helping hand to enhance the city they live in. In order to motivate the exisitng ALM's and to create further awareness on the above concept, we would shortly be announcing an ALM competition, inviting all the ALM's in Mumbai to participate. An overall winner amongst all would be chosen and rewarded.
The Green Forum
Every year we have a Partner's Meet, our suppliers are fondly referred to as Partners; which focuses on news and views from people specializing in the field as they speak on subjects ranging from quality, environment, standards, delivery schedules and of course suggestions from our partners. Taking a clue from last year's meet, where The Green Forum was instituted a questionnaire was circulated, asking all to identify areas where they would require help. Areas such as water conservation, waste water treatment, solid waste management, energy efficiency etc had been highlighted. These have been elaborated upon in a booklet titled, "Environmental Practices to Create a Greener World." We propose to give away this booklet to all our suppliers in order to support them in their initiative to preserve the environment. It also includes audit sheets, which would help them audit their properties and identify areas for improvement. The Orchid would further help suppliers with their audit results, suggesting means towards improvement.
