World Sparrow Day is a day designated to raise awareness of the house sparrow and other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations, observed on 20 March. An international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organisations across the world. Today we are all moving towards a more eco-friendly way of life as we realise the importance of environmental conservation. At Orchid Hotels, we have adopted methods of sustainable environmental protection with subtle thought put into the architecture, use of natural resources, and waste disposal at all our hotel and resort premises. One of the first eco-friendly 5-star hotels in Pune, Orchid Hotels promotes World Sparrow Day for a cleaner, greener and more chirpier future. Sparrows are one of the most ubiquitous birds on the planet. They have been one of humankind's oldest companies and we at Orchid Hotels, Pune, care about protecting and preserving these little birds.
The squeaking and chirping of birds in the quaint mornings have been replaced by rage-inducing traffic noises. Once one of the most abundant birds on the planet, these common house parrows are on the verge of extinction, both in their natural and urban habitats. This is a stark indication of the decline of the natural balance that should have been sustained otherwise. Continuous and sequential urbanisation with an unscrupulous regard for the ecosystem is definitely one of the major reasons for the gradual disappearance of these gentle chirpers. A culprit of destroying a peaceful afternoon siesta by their chirps, the sparrows are nowhere to be found near human settlements these days. It is inferred that humanity is directly responsible for most of the decimation caused to the ecosystem.
Sparrows, in this context, are not only the ambassadors of a variety of fauna and birds but of the rest of animal kingdom. Therefore, the idea of liberating and conserving the sparrows is a step forward in conserving our mother Earth. The rationale for celebrating World Sparrow Day is not only to commemorate the event for a day but to use it as a platform to underscore the need to conserve sparrows as well as the urban biodiversity. We, at Orchid Hotels, Pune, would like to jump on the bandwagon to reduce carbon footprint and do our share to sustain the world's ecosystem. We strongly advocate not using plastic products. Our keen staff promotes planting and maintaining a garden. At Orchid Hotel, Pune, you will find a plethora of flora and herbs in the verdant garden.
