Solid Waste Management
Solid waste management involves the systematic handling of waste materials from their source to final disposal. It includes processes such as segregation, collection, transportation, recycling, and safe disposal. Effective management begins with reducing waste generation, followed by reusing materials and recycling wherever possible.
Segregation at source—separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste—is essential for efficient processing. Public awareness, regular training, and active participation from individuals and organizations play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. Proper solid waste management not only reduces environmental pollution but also conserves natural resources and promotes public health.
Energy Management
We incorporated energy efficient designs and systems into the hotel from the very beginning.
- The hotel's ceiling has a Skylight which permits sunlight to enter into the atrium of the hotel providing natural light and reducing the amount of energy utilized for lighting the lobby and corridors.
- The hotel uses energy efficient lighting such as CFL and LED. The signage of the hotel which was earlier neon is now the LED-based saving tremendous amount of energy.
- A Renewable source of energy - Solar energy is harnessed through Solar panels that are installed on the roof of the hotel.
- The Master Control Panel in the Guest rooms is incorporated with an Eco button, which when pressed increases the AC temperature of the room by 2 degrees Celsius thus conserving energy.
Water Conservation
Water conservation is the need of the hour and the staff at Orchid believes in going that extra mile to spread the message of water preservation.
- With only 3% of the world's water is fresh water, the hotel has employed various techniques to preserve this vital resource.
- In our bathrooms, we have installed aerators in taps and special flushes which reduce water consumption by nearly 50% when compared to conventional ones.
- A Sewage Treatment Plant runs 24 hours and 7 days a week to ensure that wastewater is treated so that it can be reused for gardening - thereby reducing the consumption of fresh water.
- The Save Our Planet Program encourages our guests to reuses their linen and save water.
Environmental Commitment
The team at Orchid believe in making the world a better place, and carry out innumerable activities to conserve Planet Earth.
- The Orchid proves its sincere commitment to the environment by using potted plants instead of cut flowers and using paper that has at least 25% recycled content.
- Guest Room amenities include herbal toiletries and stationery made from the environmentally friendly material.
- Swimming pool water and Drinking Water is treated using Ozone instead of carcinogenic Chlorine.
Employee Education
Educating the new joiners at the preliminary levels and the enthusiastic and active participation of the staff is the mantra behind the success of policies getting delivered upon.
- The Environment Department offers green hotel tours for guests and outreach programs for students of all ages.
- Regular training keeps Orchid staff updated on the latest environmental practices, reinforcing the hotel’s eco-commitment.
- Induction programs include a session by the environment officer on Ecotel practices and sustainability.
- The team stays informed on environmental issues and is motivated to create positive change both at work and at home.
