The Great Wall of Shimla is a ‘waste-to-wealth’ initiative by Orchid Shimla that is made entirely out of waste bottle caps and carbon-free recycled plastic. It is India’s largest enviroscape mural put together by residents of Shimla, including children from various schools, children with mental health issues and senior citizens. It is curated with approximately 5 lakh waste bottle caps. It is a creative expression of the hotel’s ‘Green Shimla, Clean Shimla’ initiative.

Brand Orchid is Asia’s pioneering chain of Ecotel Hotels and has been at the helm of promoting conservationist hospitality through their creations of eco-friendly hotels and resorts across India. This is the vision and the aim of the hotel’s founder and guardian, Dr Vithal Venkatesh Kamat. Dr Kamat has been advocating green living, not merely through speech, but through result-inducing actions and initiatives. His quest to turn waste into wealth has inspired every member of Team Orchid to think outside the box and create visible examples that will motivate our future generations to be respectful of our planet. One such initiative is the ‘Great Wall of Shimla’ at the Queen of Hill Stations.

‘The Great Wall of Shimla’ symbolises Orchid’s respect towards Mother Earth and our commitment to making it a better and greener place. The mural is another attraction to the many sightseeing spots in Shimla and an excellent spot for photo-ops as well.
